TERRY Rymer believes new club Holland FC can challenge for promotion in their first Thurlow Nunn League campaign.

The striker has joined the ambitious division one side after recently parting company with Brightlingsea Regent.

It will be Holland’s first season at step six level, after going up from the Essex and Suffolk Border League.

And Rymer believes his new team can make a major impact and be in the hunt for more league and cup honours.

“Holland are a club moving in the right direction and they want to get to the next level,” said the 27-year-old, who admitted having offers from “three or four” Ryman League clubs.

“They’re ambitious and I don’t see any reason why they can’t do similar things to Brightlingsea (who moved through the divisions after winning promotion from the Border League).

“If we can get a couple more signings on board, I think we can be up there next season and I wouldn’t have joined if I didn’t think that was possible.

“People may look at this move and question how ambitious I am, because I’m dropping down a couple of divisions.

“They’ll say I’m taking an easy route, but that’s definitely not the case.

“I’ve moved here for the right reasons and because I firmly believe I’m joining a club that can challenge for league and cup honours.

“We want to be up there and I really liked what I heard after having a long chat with (joint-manager) Rob Batten.”

Rymer has a proven goal-scoring record, regularly netting for the likes of Stanway Rovers, FC Clacton and AFC Sudbury, in addition to Brightlingsea.

He played a major role in the latter’s success in recent years, helping them win a succession of promotions and regularly finishing as top scorer.

“I’m confident I can score goals for Holland,” he said.

“But the most important thing is always the team.

“I’d take a 1-0 win every week and not scoring and more than anything, I’m looking forward to playing with some close mates.

“I know the boys well and have very good vibes about this move.”

Holland joint-boss Glenn Cowen was delighted to confirm the signing and said more new additions could follow in the next few days.

“We’re delighted to have Terry on board,” said the former Gas Recreation boss.

“He knows the club and knows what we’re all about.

“It’s a massive signing for us and shows our intent to do well.

“He’s got a proven goal-scoring record and it means we’re blessed with three quality strikers now, with Terry joining Rob Thorne and Steve Eaton.

“He’s also a great character to have in the dressing room, which is so important.”
