THE Braintree and Bocking Angling Society trip to Clare to fish the Long Pond was rewarded with good weights in near perfect conditions.

The choice is to fish for carp or silvers or spend time trying to catch both.

The carp usually provide the top weights and this turned out to be the case on the day as Chris Orrin targeted them and had fish from a few ounces to about six pounds for the total weight of 46-2-0.

Peter Hunt also had mainly carp in his second-placed 32-8-0.

Although the top places all contained carp, there were still three 20lb plus weights of silvers.

Sections (excluding top two): 1 G Spong 15-9-0, 2 J Downham 24-9-0.

The first evening match at Notley was a very hard match with fish hard to come by.

Gary Spong had two F1s with skimmers to record a winning weight of 7-14-0, while Mark Orrin needed just 4-12-8 to secure second place.

On the Notley Friday Sweep, the carp failed to show and Chris Orrin landed just one with other fish to win with 10-6-0. Jim Loosley took the runners-up spot with 9-3-0.

On Sunday, the Braintree Club match will be fished on the Channel section of Ash Rounds.
