FORMER Braintree Town boss Alan Devonshire has been appointed as the new manager of Maidenhead United.

The 59-year-old is returning to the club he first managed from 1996 until 2003.

He had been favourite to take over at York Road ever since he split from the Iron.

He takes the reins from Johnson Hippolyte, who ended his eight-and-a-half-year spell in charge by lifting the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup on Monday.

Devonshire recently turned down the offer of a new deal at Braintree and has now been replaced by Danny Cowley.
