Bills Tackle Black team wrapped up the Angling Direct/Essex Winter League title despite conditions giving slim pickings at the final round.

In a gin-clear Maldon Canal, catches were in ounces rather than pounds, with several blanks.

Phoenix won on the day with 22 points, from Bills Tackle Black on 20 and Phoenix also had the top individual in Graham Childs, who weighed 1-8-0.

Reece Hearn (Bills Tackle White) was the only other angler to break the pound mark, as he weighed 60 small roach and perch for 1-2-8. Danny Mason (Bills Tackle Black) was joint third with Mark Campion (Maver/Colemans MP) both weighing 0-14-8.

The final result saw Bills Tackle Black as league winners with 84 points from the White Team on 72 and Phoenix on 71.

Browning Wickford anglers Keith Gooderham and Paul Chambers were joint top individuals with 25 points each, while Reece Hearn just pipped several other Bills Tackle anglers to take third place with 22.

Danny Mason finished joint fourth after winning his section in the three matches he fished.
