A woman has tragically died following a road crash this afternoon in Grays between a lorry and a car.

Paramedics tried to save the woman, said to be in her 60s, at the site of the crash, along with an air ambulance, but she was later confirmed to have died.

Police at the scene arrested the lorry driver on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Officers were first called to the scene at 1.30pm this afternoon following reports of a collision involving a lorry and a car on the A1089 Dock Approach Road between Grays and Orsett.

The road is likely to remain closed for at least another three hours while police investigations are carried out.

Detectives have now launched a witness appeal following the fatal road crash.
