GREAT Wakering Rovers defender Ollie Jenkins has been named the Echo's player of the month for April.

Jenkins received 41 per cent of the votes to finish ahead of Billericay Town's Bradley Stevenson.

And the centre-back was thrilled to pick up the award on the eve of this weekend's FA Vase final at Wembley.

"I am absolutely delighted to win player of the month , especially with it being the one just before the FA Vase final this Saturday," said Jenkins.

"I was shocked to even be in the voting to win it and with the hectic month we had any player at Wakering could’ve been in contention with winning it.

"Now that I’ve joined the two other Wakering lads Callum Boylan and Harry Talbot in winning it does mean a lot especially as defenders don’t really get the recognition as they deserve.

"Now let’s get to business and bring this trophy back to Wakering."
