MORE than £2,000 has been donated to a charity following its successful fundraiser for a bus which supports people with cancer.

Halstead Mayor and chairman of the town council, Jackie Pell, gave the cheque for £2,500 to the Hope for Tomorrow.

The money was raised via the Cuppa for Cancer Care event which was held at Queens Hall, in Chipping Hill, on February 24.

Funds were raised for the mobile cancer care unit which visits Halstead every Tuesday and supports people in the town and surrounding areas with the condition.

The clerk for the town council said: “The charity provides chemotherapy treatment for patients in rural areas, in a chemo bus.

“This helps those patients to avoid the stress and exhaustion caused by travelling to a major hospital for treatment.”

The vital chemotherapy bus is provided by a charity and is not funded by the NHS.

The event held a raffle, and attendees could donate money by purchasing coffee, tea, cake, trinkets, and more.

At the time, Mrs Pell said: “It exceeded my expectations.

“I was so pleased, I’ve had so many people message me about how they enjoyed it, and it made them aware of what the bus does, most people don’t realise it is a charity.”
