A WOMAN who dedicates her time to taking care of animals has been recognised for her selflessness.

Jessica Dayes, 22, from Cornish Hall End near Finchingfield, is an animal care assistant at Danaher Animal Home in Wethersfield.

She works with the dogs, training them and improving their behaviour.

She was nominated by Bex Surman, a volunteer dog walker at the centre, for the Community Hero of the Week award.

Bex said: "No matter how tough the day is at work she always does her best and has a smile on her face nothing is too much work for her."

She said there is a number of fantastic Danaher staff who work tirelessly day in and day out at the home.

Jessica started work experience at the home six years ago and was later offered a part time job.

She now works with the dogs on a regular basis.

She said: "I do a lot of training and behaviour improvement with the dogs- we love having fun with them and rehoming them.

"A lot of them come in with behavioural problems, I really enjoy seeing the visible change and seeing them go home.

"I love rehabilitating them and I have a Boxer at the moment who I'm working with. It's great watching her and day by day as she is becoming more affectionate.

"It's really rewarding."

The charity takes in unwanted animals and provides a temporary refuge for them, where they are assessed and treated.
