A sponsored walk has raised almost £3,000 in memory of a schoolboy who died from a brain tumour.

Members of the Smile of Arran Trust, set up in memory of 13-year-old Arran Tosh who died last year, took part in a five day, 66-mile trek around the Isle of Arran in Scotland in August.

A final count of sponsorship money has seen them raise £2,804.

Arran’s mum, Alison, said: “We were only hoping to raise £1,000 so this total is amazing.

“We are really, really pleased.

“I would like to thanks all the friends and family who took part in the walk all week.”

The Lamlash Golf Club, on the Isle of Arran, also raised £3,000 for the charity.

So far, Arran’s Just Giving page has raised £20,000, which was donated to Cancer Research UK, and a further £37,000 from the Smile of Arran charity.

Mrs Tosh said they are planning to give £15,000 of this to Clic Sargent.

More fundraising activities have been planned, with Fat Face in Sudbury donating to the cause during the Black Friday event this weekend.

Sainsbury’s in Haverhill are holding a number of events in support of the charity, including selling the charity’s Christmas cards from 11am until 2pm on Saturday and hosting a stall selling items made by the charity - including scottie dog toys, pens and wristbands on December 11, 12 and 13.

Charity volunteers will be bag packing on December 19 and 20 in the store to raise money.

The Christmas cards will also be available from the post offices in Great Yeldham and Sible Hedingham, Darkins in Sible Hedingham and Winch and Blatch in Sudbury.
